Week 2 of "Firmly Rooted" presents salvation as a gift to be received rather than a wage to be earned, moving through three beats — Romans 3:23 establishes that sin (hamartia, "to miss the mark") has separated everyone without exception from God, and its wage is death, a debt nailed to the cross; Romans 6:23b and Ephesians 2:8-9 show that Christ paid that debt through grace (charis, undeserved favor), a gift no one can boast in earning; and Romans 10:9 calls for the response of confessing (homologeō, agreeing with what God says) and believing (pisteuō, trusting enough to sit in the chair, not just admire it) — landing on the bottom line that salvation is "done, not do," complete and available to whoever calls on the name of the Lord (Rom. 10:13).
